Kathleen Wynne is proroguing the Ontario Parliament. We’ve endured thirteen years of irresponsible spending, waste, and corruption from this Government. But now, instead of doing something to fix the problem Premier Wynne has decided to start over. She’s insisting that all she wants to do is set a new tone. She says she just wants a throne speech and then it will be business as usual. But she isn’t being honest.
Proroguing abruptly ends the life of any and all bills in the Assembly. Everything will have to start over. Time is money, and this Government is adept at wasting both.
Wynne will use the throne speech to setup a new narrative after an embarrassing defeat in the recent by-election in Scarborough-Rouge River. After 13 years of denial, she claims the Government has to do something about the enormous cost of hydro. But don’t hold your breath. If this Government were serious about addressing this energy crisis, they would immediately stop selling off Hydro One and stop signing expensive contracts for energy that we don’t need.
But I am not optimistic about any abrupt change of policy. This is the same Government that has faced five criminal investigations by the Ontario Provincial Police. It’s the same Government that has slashed health care services. It’s the same Government that has increased the public debt to $300-billion.
When the House returns on Monday, I look forward to holding this irresponsible Government to account for the energy crisis that they created.
Life is hard under this Government, and no amount of window dressing or procedural tricks will help.
